Thinking About Retirement?
If you are within 1–5 years of retirement, you will want to attend these
WSSRA Pre-Retirement Planning Webinars!
Spring 2024 Pre-Retirement Webinars
Thursday, March 14, 2024, 4:30 p.m. via Zoom The Department of Retirement Systems (DRS) and the Health Care Authority (PEBB) will present the first part of a 101-level review of basic retirement planning. Active employees within five years of retirement particularly will benefit from the information provided.
Tuesday, March 19, 2024, 4:30 p.m. via Zoom The second part of the basic review of retirement planning will focus on Social Security, Medicare, and VEBA, your sick leave buyout options. We have found that dividing the presentations into two separate sessions avoided the rush and “too-much-information-at-once” challenges that came with one lengthy presentation.
Please fill out the registration form for either or both sessions here.
These webinars will be recorded and will be available for viewing—along with many others—on the WSSRA website (www.wssra.org). Click on the “Webinars” tab and then on the program you’d like to watch.
Members-Only Webinars
UNDERSTANDING ALZHEIMER’S AND DEMENTIA: Thursday, April 11, 2024, 9:00 a.m., via Zoom. Too many of us have dealt with declining mental capacity of loved ones, and this webinar will provide the basics for those who may need to intervene with a parent, spouse, sibling, or other family member encountering the early stages of these unwelcome maladies. This presentation will focus on the differences between Alzheimer’s and dementia, stages, risk factors, research, and FDA-Approved treatments. The presenters are:
Alexis Bonoff—Alexis is the Program Manager and Research Champion for the Alzheimer’s Association in Central Washington. She oversees Community Education and Outreach programs, Support Groups, and the volunteers who lead them. Her background is in Education and International Development.
Coleen Culmer—Coleen graduated with a masters degree from WSU. (Go Cougs!) She spent 39 years in education, most of those years in administration. She retired in 2018 and began volunteering for the Alzheimer’s Association. Her father passed away in 2015 from Alzheimer’s, so it is a cause that is personally meaningful to her.
