TCSRA’s 2024–2025 HIGHLIGHTS IN PHOTOS
(TCSRA and WSSRA members’ names are in bold print.)

TCSRA was founded on September 18, 1954, by 5 dedicated retired teachers. That made 2024-2025 our 70th year!
TCSRA members gathered at Woodland Creek Community Park in Lacey for our September “Welcome Back” picnic.
After being introduced by Ann Chenhall (right), Jessica Bateman, Washington State Senator, spoke to the group about coming legislative issues.
We had a large crowd at our January 2025 luncheon, which featured the superintendents from all of Thurston County’s School Districts. Each of the seven superintendents related highlights from his/her district. →
Superintendents from left to right: Kirsten Rue, Griffin SD; Troy Oliver, North Thurston Public Schools; Patrick Murphy, Olympia SD; Bryon Bahr, Rainier SD; Chris Woods, Yelm Community Schools; Jennifer Bethman, Rochester SD; Chris Endicott, Tenino SD; and Kevin Bogatin, Tumwater SD.
Thurston County Sheriff Derek Sanders was a very interesting guest speaker at our February luncheon. He answered a lot of questions!
Once again, Art Dolan fascinated us with one of his presentations. This time he switched from history to science with “Discrepant Science Events.”
These are a few of our mini-grant recipients who attended our first late afternoon event at The Friendly Meeting House to show off their projects. Left to right are James Aliviar, Laura Bates, Carrie Black, and Heide Toepke.
Pat Slosson presented an REI gift certificate to Will Gentz to thank him for serving as our treasurer for 5 years.
Rita Figlenski, WSSRA president, installed our returning and new officers at our May luncheon.

We are so proud of the following three TCSRA members who received special recognition at the 2025 WSSRA Annual Convention and Delegate Assembly. (For additional information about Gail Feagins and Lee Ozmun, see the 2025 July, August, September issue of The Journal, pages 13-14. Kristin Murphy, editor of The Journal, provided the following photos.)

Gail Feagins received the WSSRA Stan McNaughton Outreach Award, recognizing her extensive efforts as a community volunteer, both near home and abroad.
Lee Ozmun received the WSSRA Ester Wilfong Legislative Advocacy Award for transforming our legislative activity across the state.
Ron Crawford (left) received a plaque, which commemorates his term as WSSRA president, from Peter Diedrick, WSSRA Executive Director.
