SWWSRA Executive Board Minutes

Zoom Meeting

Nov. 19, 2020

Linda Bannon called the Zoom meeting to order at 10:05 AM

Attending: Linda Bannon, Marty Erickson, Mina Milligan, Despo Varkados, Fran Perason, Jane Madden, Jeanie Anderson

2020/2021 Budget: Marty Erickson highlighted $8,000 for mini-grants, $2,000 for scholarships normally raised during convention, $6,000 for Foundations. The $2,000 scholarship will be given in honor of Don Rifenbery. The nomination and budget were approved.

Minutes: October, 2020 Board minutes/notes were reviewed and approved as corrected.

IQ Credit Union: Linda Bannon explained the situation that took place when names were switched over. After a couple tries, Linda Bannon and Marty Erickson will now be able to write checks. Joel (Jody) Bugg, Margaret Snitzler and Jeanie Anderson were removed.

Membership: Margaret Snitzler reported through Linda Bannon that in October we had 510 members and in November we had 507 members.

Friendship: Jane Madden reported that since March, sympathy cards were sent to the families of: Cathy Eagle, Shirley A Martin, Richard Weissenfluh, Connie Oppel, Vicki Duchesneau, Beverly Gano, Phyllis Clancy, Kathleen Hodgins, Dixie Arata, Barbara Fraser, Hayden Hagin, Roger Jones, Walter West, and Mary A Leslie.

Other cards sent–

March 2020— Birthday card to Irma Slocum —99th Birthday

October 2020 Card to Roger Bieber for death of wife Valerie  (Wife not a member)  Margaret Snitzler requested card be sent to Member Roger Bieber.

Jane Madden suggested that birthday cards be sent out for those people that usually attend our luncheons. Mina Milligan will call, using the call lists, to get birthday dates.

Health: Fran Person reported that the deadline is near if you would like to change insurance. She also talked about the need to keep active.

Mini-Grants: Mina Milligan reported that $350 will be offered, ending when the budgeted $8,000 is used up. Notifications about the mini-grants are being sent out to the districts through the ESD directing them to SWWSRA’s site where there is an application. When this application is completed and submitted, it will go directly to Waneta Filbin. So far, Marty Erickson has fulfilled two requests.

Despo Varkados stated that we need to get our name out in order to get new members. Jeanie Anderson suggested that we put a message on our site about membership that is connected to the mini-grants.

Site: Mina Milligan reported that everything has been updated, including the mini-grant application.

Retirement seminar: Despo Varkados reported that there will be a statewide seminar via Zoom. Now is our chance to see what actually happens during these seminars.

Programs: Linda Bannon reported that Darci Schmitt’s Battle Ground High School Vocal Jazz Ensemble will perform via zoom Dec. 3rd at 11:30 AM for our luncheon members. Mina Milligan will set the Zoom meeting up. A Motion was made to pay $150 to Darci Schmitt for her service. Seconded and approved.
