Property Taxes

November 12, 2019

Dear WSSRA Member:

The Washington State Legislature has expanded eligibility for senior property tax reductions. You should be aware that you may qualify for a property tax deferral or exemption.

The previous annual household income cap to be eligible for the benefit was $40,000. However, the cap is now based on a percentage of median county household income. For instance, the eligibility cap for an exemption in King County is now $58,400.

Program information is available here

The exemption and deferral program is being managed by county assessors.

Contact information is available here

This is a program seniors must apply for. The stated application deadline for the 2020 calendar year is December 31, 2019; however, assessors have the legal leeway to accept applications beyond the deadline.

Questions about the program and your eligibility can be best answered by your county assessor’s office. If you think you might qualify, please give them a call.

Sincerely,

Alan Burke, Executive Director
