Welcome to the Whatcom County School Retirees Association!
Once a teacher, always a teacher! Whether we taught in classrooms, drove buses, served lunches, kept the books, or led from the principal’s office—education has been the heart of our careers. And here in Whatcom County, we believe retirement is just the start of a new chapter in learning, connecting, and giving back.
The Whatcom County School Retirees Association (WCSRA) brings together retired educators and school staff—both certified and classified—as well as those still working in our local districts. We’re a lively group with a shared passion for education and our community. Many of us taught or served in Bellingham, Lynden, Ferndale, Blaine, Nooksack, Meridian, and beyond. These aren’t just names on a map—they’re places we helped grow, one school day at a time.
Our monthly gatherings are part meeting, part reunion, and always worth attending. We talk about local and statewide issues that affect retirees, share a few laughs, learn something new, and sometimes just enjoy being together. Past topics have included education trends, community history, wellness tips, arts and culture, and the occasional game or trivia session (teachers do love quizzes).
But we’re more than just a social group—we’re still in it for the kids! WCSRA proudly funds scholarships for aspiring teachers, awards mini-grants to help current teachers bring big ideas to life, and supports school supply drives through local foundations. Many of our members also volunteer in classrooms, libraries, and local nonprofits.
If you’re a retired school employee living in Whatcom County—or still working in education and looking ahead—we’d love to welcome you. Join us in staying active, engaged, and connected with a community that still believes in the power of learning.
Let’s keep making a difference—together.
