Welcome to the Whatcom County School Retirees Association!
We are the Whatcom County chapter of the Washington State School Retirees’ Association (formerly the Washington State Retired Teachers’ Association) — often referred to as WSSRA. More than 17,000 members belong to the state organization, hundreds of them from our chapter here in Whatcom County. Our primary aim is to enhance the security and vitality of your retirement years. We welcome all present and future TRS, PERS and SERS retirees. We provide pro-retiree and pro-education advocacy and leadership to the Washington State Legislature.
Whatcom County School Retirees Association (WCSRA) members taught or served in Bellingham, Lynden, Ferndale, Blaine, Nooksack, Mount Baker, Meridian, and beyond. Our gatherings are part meeting, part reunion, and always worth attending. We talk about local and statewide issues that affect retirees, share a few laughs, learn something new, and sometimes just enjoy being together. Past topics have included education trends, community history, wellness tips, arts and culture, and the occasional game or trivia session (teachers do love quizzes).
And we are not just interested in our own retirement. WCSRA proudly funds local food banks, scholarships for aspiring teachers and mini-grants to help current teachers bring big ideas to life in the classroom. Many of our members also volunteer in classrooms, libraries, and local nonprofits.
Whether you’re a retired school employee living in Whatcom County—or still working in education and looking ahead—we’d love to welcome you.
