Jeanie Anderson called the meeting to order at 11:40 AM, followed by the flag salute. Jeanie\nAnderson welcomed four guests. Kathy Person filled in for Fran Person\nwho could not attend due to sickness. Irma Slocum, long time member,\nwas given a warm greeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Program<\/strong>:\nThe Battle Ground High School Vocal Jazz Ensemble, ranging from\nfreshmen to seniors, entertained us with twelve original and\nenchanting Christmas songs. There were seven girls and three boys.\nTheir talent was amazing, along with their leader Darci Schmitt and\npianist Brent\nJeffries. The\nstudents introduced themselves, proving their allegiance to all\nschool subjects. Ms. Schmitt dedicated \u201cWe\u2019re Going Caroling\u201d\nto Irma Slocum. Jeanie Anderson expressed how fortunate we are to\nhave the Vocal Jazz Ensemble and their exquisite entertainment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Thought\nof the day<\/strong>: Jane\nMadden read Christmas Inspirations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Program<\/strong>:\nPaul Harris, 17th<\/sup>\nDistrict Representative for 10 years, has\nspent a lot of time with citizens around the district. Businesses and\nfamilies in Washington cannot survive any more taxation and\nunsustainable budgets coming out of Olympia. Mr. Harris is determined\nto make sure people have jobs, keep our tax rates low, show fiscal\nresponsibility with the state budget, allow businesses to be\nproductive without fighting excessive regulations and provide a\nquality education for our children. There were many questions that\nMr. Harris addressed with insight and humor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Friendship<\/strong>:\n Jane Madden sent cards to the families of Correne Barrus and Pamela\nJudd.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Mini\nGrants: <\/strong>This year\nthere were 36 applications, thanks to our SWWSRA website and its\nuser-friendliness. 11 mini grants were awarded. The grants went to\nthe following: Evergreen Teachers Randy Bergstrom, Julie Doerschel,\nBenjamin Knuth, Jessica Standash. Camas teachers Kate Chase, Erik\nEdmundson, Rebecca Fountain, Raelyn Hovig, Lori Williams. Vancouver\nteachers Steve Lindblom, Anthony Shine. Wanita Filbin explained that\na wider range of ages were covered this year. They included High\nSchool, Middle School, Specialist teachers, a music teacher and a\nprincipal. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n Treasurer\u2019s\nReport<\/strong>: by Marty\nErickson<\/p>\n\n\n\n Membership<\/strong>:\n Margaret Snitzler reported that there are 501 members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n VSD\nPresentation<\/strong>: \nJeanie Anderson will meet with Dr. Burke to visit Discovery and Flex\nAcademy on January 15th<\/sup>.\n Then at 9:30 AM, they will meet at Elmer\u2019s with the Retirement\nSeminar group.
